ABOUT US
El Sol y La Flor began as a labor of love—first as a passion for storytelling through photography, then as a place to celebrate the beauty of human connection. What started as a husband-and-wife photography team has now evolved into something deeper: a mission to uplift, advocate, and serve our community.
We are Marifer and Aaron Schaeper, a writer-photographer duo based in Austin, Texas. Our journey together began in 2018 with a chance encounter at Waterloo Records, where our shared love for art and storytelling sparked something special. Over the years, our lens has captured the joy of countless love stories—but recently, our hearts have been called to something more.
As we looked at the world around us, we could no longer ignore the struggles faced by marginalized communities. We felt a deep conviction to be more than just storytellers—to become advocates, to stand with the oppressed, and to use our gifts for something greater. Our purpose has shifted, but our heart remains the same: to capture truth, amplify voices, and remind people that they are seen, loved, and worthy.
What We Do
Community-Focused Photography – We still love capturing beautiful moments, but now with a focus on serving those who need it most. Through our “Pay What You Can” initiative, we offer photography to low-income families who may not otherwise have access to professional photos.
Storytelling & Advocacy – Our blog is a space for truth-telling. Here, we share stories of resilience, highlight social issues, and provide resources to empower and inform.
Uplifting Minority Voices – As a Latina-founded platform, we are committed to advocating for immigrants, minorities, and all those facing injustice. We use our space to amplify voices that are often overlooked.
Why “El Sol y La Flor”?
Our name, El Sol y La Flor (The Sun and The Flower), represents growth, light, and resilience—a reminder that even in the darkest times, love and hope persist.
Scripture calls us to defend the weak and uphold the cause of the oppressed (Psalm 82:3). This is our heart. This is our mission.
We don’t have all the answers, but we are committed to showing up, learning, and doing the work—one story, one photograph, one act of love at a time.

El Sol y La Flor nació como un acto de amor—primero como una pasión por contar historias a través de la fotografía, y después como un espacio para celebrar la belleza de la conexión humana. Lo que comenzó como un equipo de fotografía de esposo y esposa ha evolucionado en algo más profundo: una misión para elevar, abogar y servir a nuestra comunidad.
Somos Marifer y Aaron Schaeper, un dúo de escritora y fotógrafo con base en Austin, Texas. Nuestro camino juntos comenzó en 2018 con un encuentro casual en Waterloo Records, donde nuestro amor compartido por el arte y la narración de historias encendió algo especial. A lo largo de los años, nuestra lente ha capturado la alegría de innumerables historias de amor, pero recientemente, nuestros corazones han sentido un llamado más profundo.
Al mirar el mundo que nos rodea, ya no pudimos ignorar las luchas que enfrentan las comunidades marginadas. Sentimos una profunda convicción de ser más que simples narradores: de convertirnos en defensores, de estar al lado de los oprimidos y de usar nuestros dones para algo más grande. Nuestro propósito ha cambiado, pero nuestro corazón sigue siendo el mismo: capturar la verdad, amplificar voces y recordarle a la gente que es vista, amada y valiosa.
Lo Que Hacemos
Fotografía con Enfoque Comunitario – Seguimos amando capturar momentos hermosos, pero ahora con un enfoque en servir a quienes más lo necesitan. A través de nuestra iniciativa “Paga Lo Que Puedas,” ofrecemos sesiones de fotografía a familias de bajos recursos que quizás no tendrían acceso a fotos profesionales.
Narración de Historias y Defensa – Nuestro blog es un espacio para decir la verdad. Aquí compartimos historias de resiliencia, destacamos problemas sociales y ofrecemos recursos para informar y empoderar.
Elevando Voces de Minorías – Como una plataforma fundada por una mujer latina, estamos comprometidos a abogar por inmigrantes, minorías y todas las personas que enfrentan injusticias. Usamos este espacio para amplificar voces que a menudo son ignoradas.
¿Por Qué “El Sol y La Flor”?
Nuestro nombre, El Sol y La Flor, representa crecimiento, luz y resiliencia—un recordatorio de que, incluso en los tiempos más oscuros, el amor y la esperanza persisten.
La Escritura nos llama a defender a los débiles y a mantener la causa de los oprimidos (Salmo 82:3). Este es nuestro corazón. Esta es nuestra misión.
No tenemos todas las respuestas, pero estamos comprometidos a estar presentes, aprender y hacer el trabajo—una historia, una fotografía, un acto de amor a la vez.
