Part of our mission at El Sol y La Flor is to share stories that honor immigrants and minorities and tell their truth. We believe that, over time, many of us have forgotten how to listen, and in turn have lost a sense of community. We’ve become consumed by our own lives, as challenging as they may be.
But we have sacrificed community for comfort. And that comfort was always an illusion. For so many, it was far from reality.
When it’s so easy to isolate and give up – that’s when we need to come together. We need to start asking ourselves the hard questions: Why do we believe what we believe? Are we willing to dive deeper? We must stop feeding our fears and allowing cruelty to profit from them.
While I share my own words and reflections, I also want to share stories that often get forgotten, stories we pretend don’t exist but do. Stories from people who deserve to be heard. People who inspire me every day.
My goal through these stories is to reveal the humanity in the wonderful people this country is trying to erase and dehumanize.
En El Sol y La Flor, parte de nuestra misión es compartir historias que honren a inmigrantes y minorías, y darles voz. Creemos que, con el tiempo, muchos hemos olvidado cómo escuchar y, con ello, hemos perdido el sentido de comunidad.
A veces nuestras propias vidas son lo suficientemente difíciles, y nos encerramos en ellas. Pero hemos aprendido que esa “comodidad” que sentimos no es real. Para muchas personas, nunca ha existido.
Cuando es tan fácil aislarnos y rendirnos, es cuando más necesitamos unirnos. Es momento de hacernos preguntas difíciles: ¿Por qué creemos lo que creemos? ¿Estamos dispuestos a profundizar y ver más allá? Tenemos que dejar de alimentar nuestros miedos y de permitir que la crueldad se beneficie de ellos.
Por eso, además de compartir mis propias palabras y reflexiones, quiero contar historias que a menudo se olvidan. Historias que algunos prefieren ignorar, pero que existen. Historias de personas que merecen ser escuchadas y que me inspiran cada día.
Mi objetivo es mostrar la humanidad de personas maravillosas que este país intenta borrar y deshumanizar.
